From your question, I think you are familiar with these resources. Only folks who are into mapping technologies would list all these applications. I am by no means an expert on these applications, but here is my best shot to quickly answer your question.
You list 6 specific software applications and GIS, which is a technology category. The 6 applications you mention fall into 4 categories: GIS, online mapping, CAD, and virtual globe. Let’s look at these 4 categories.
+ GIS: Stands for geographic information systems. GIS is the management, analysis, and dissemination of geospatial data. The GIS application that you mention is MapInfo. This is one of the most powerful and widespread GIS applications, second only to ArcGIS. + Online Mapping: The two online mapping sites that you mention are Yahoo Maps and MapQuest. Others include Google Maps, and Microsoft Live Search. These browser-based interactive maps allow everyone to view maps, remote sensing data, driving directions, business directory info, etc. MapQuest is one of the earliest online maps. + CAD: Stands for computer-aided design. You mentioned two of the largest CAD suite of applications, AutoCad and MicroStation.
